Renee Fleming has been selected to sing ‘The National Anthem’ at this year’s Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. I bet you’ve never heard of her….. Fleming is an operatic soprano who is set to begin performances of Dvorak’s ‘Rusalka’ at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. She’s a world renown singer that has already had her shot at singing ‘The National Anthem’ before a big game. Fleming was picked to sing during the World Series in New York in 2003. Unfortunately, she flubbed the lyrics and had to ad-lib her way through the performance. This is her shot of redemption.
While Fleming will take care of this year’s Super Bowl, there have been a host of singers in previous Super Bowl’s you’ve probably heard of, but didn’t realize they had ‘The National Anthem’ duties.
