Carol Robles-Román was born in the Bronx, New York . From an early age, Robles-Román was driven to succeed academically and professionally. She graduated as valedictorian from Cardinal Spellman High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in political science from Syracuse University. Robles-Román then obtained her law degree from New York University School of Law .
Legal and Government Career
Robles-Román began her distinguished legal career as an attorney at the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. She then served as Deputy Mayor for Legal Affairs and Counsel to Mayor Michael Bloomberg from 2002 to 2009, making her one of the two longest-serving deputy mayors in New York City history.
As Deputy Mayor, Robles-Román oversaw high-profile initiatives and agencies including the Law Department, Human Resources Administration and Commission on Human Rights. She helped pioneer efforts to make New York more immigrant-friendly and was instrumental in passing legislation to combat domestic violence and human trafficking.
Passion for Justice and Equality
Throughout her career, Carol Robles-Román was a fierce advocate for justice, equality and civil rights. She co-founded the Latino Justice PRLDEF, a non-profit that protects opportunities for all Latinos to succeed in work and school.
