Jet Black Alley Cat are an exciting, fast rising Nashville-based vintage-indie-pop rocker band who have recently released their brand new EP ‘Motel’.

They have so far garnered a mass of positive attention since the release of their’Part One’. And though Nashville is notorious for its bustling music scene focusing on country jazz, bluegrass, and guitar-heavy rock – the five-piece have been able to stand out in the crowd. The group are determined to make a name for themselves and their vintage-indie-pop tunes.

Here we speak exclusively to Jet Black Alley Cat to discuss their new EP, touring plans, future goals and more;

So, how did you guys meet?

Joe – four of us met at university where we started doing a bit of music, but it wasn’t until 2014 when we met Bryant that Jet Black began.

How did the band name come about?

Joe – I was walking in a theatre I was working at one night when we were discussing names. For some random reason Jet Black Alley Cat came to mind and it felt like what we envisioned for ourselves. I went home and told the guys and wrote it on our white board of names , and it’s the one that ultimately stuck .

Being based in Nashville, do you feel you also  incorporate Country styles into your music?

Christian – Nashville is very eclectic. Country is the forefront but not the ultimatum. I wouldn’t say it’s incorporated into our sound very much. We do relate to the old looks and clothing vibes of country stars like Johnny Cash and others.

How do you feel your individual musical tastes combine to create your overall sound?

Christian – Honestly, everyone in our band grew up listening to many different things causing each person to have their own approach and playing style. That’s been the backbone to our band. Each person being able to put a bit of their personality onto each track rather than it being dominated one or 2 individuals.

You have recently released your new EP, how excited are you to be sharing your new project?

Joe – So glad it’s finally out. This project meant a lot to us. It was a representation of our lives for an amount of time. We’re excited to see how people react to the songs live on this tour. But honestly, we’ve already shifted our mind to the next group of songs. Motel is for others to digest now, we’ve been digesting it for months.

What inspired the tracks on the record?

Joe – There were a string of shows we were on in the Florida area and afterwards we would find the cheapest motel rooms we could find or even sleep at the beach. We were low on money but not necessarily on spirit. We found ourselves obsessed with this idea of complete freedom, no matter the circumstances. That kind of defined the record.

What do you hope fans take from the EP?

Joe – To slow down and listen to it, decide what you like and don’t like, and how you relate or not. It’s a youthful record so be young and feel young and learn more about yourself every day.

Do you have plans to release a full length album soon?

Christian – Maybe, honestly no clue. We’ll see what happens.

Do you currently have any touring plans lined up?

Christian – As I’m answering this interview, we are currently starting day 1 in Dallas on our first full US Tour. This run lasts till July 28th with the final stop In Nashville, our hometown. So looking forward to these shows

What are your long term career plans?

Christian – Long term plans are to keep creating as much cool content as possible till we don’t think it’s very cool anymore.
