The triple shooting was initially reported by NBC10 Philadelphia, which reported that it took place on Thursday night (July 20) on the 5800 block of Mascher Street in the Olney neighborhood at 8:24 p.m. A 25-year-old man, believed to be Gill’s son, was shot once in the back and taken to the hospital by police, and was pronounced dead at 8:39 p.m.

A 28-year-old man and a 31-year-old man were also shot and taken to the hospital, with both men being placed in stable condition. Police said one of the victims ran to a nearby home and 10 spent shell casings were found at the scene. No arrests were immediately made and no weapons were recovered.

Cheese, real name Devin Spadey, was laid to rest at The Met in North Philadelphia on Monday (July 24), per CBS News. Hundreds of mourners attended the service to pay their respects, and speakers took a moment to acknowledge that there needs to be more done to stop gun violence within Philadelphia.

“This senseless act of violence, these shootings, has to stop. I mean, what good is it?” M.C. Doug E.D., a family friend of Gillie’s, said during the funeral.

“[Gillie] always promoted a positive image and always talked about putting the guns down. So it’s unfortunate that his son had to meet his demise this way,” George Macon, a family friend, added.

Gillie Da Kid’s Million Dollaz Worth of Game co-host Wallo had previously taken to Instagram following the tragedy to pay tribute to YNG Cheese.

“Lil Cuz usually when I talk to you, I got a lot to tell you,” he wrote next to a photo of the late rapper. “Tonight the pain in my heart & tears spoke to you. I love you beyond life Cheese. I got your father, Rest Well!”
